Industry Day 2022
By Jan Norwood
Did you know that various entities, like the Department of Defense, offer annual industry days? These days are intended to present the plans for a current or future procurement to representatives from a specific industry. These days and events are often followed by the release of a Request for Proposal (RFP) or Requests for Quotes (RFQ). There are also Reverse Industry Days (RID) where industry leaders help procurement professionals better understand how they do business and how they bid on it. Either event can provide excellent opportunities for large corporations to find diverse suppliers and for diverse suppliers to better understand certain industries of interest.

One organization facilitating these types of events is the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC). HMSDC is offering virtual mini conferences at their upcoming Industry Day: Construction/Infrastructure on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
The mini conferences are intended to provide exposure to industry experts and increase knowledge of certain industry. Attendees will
-
See a macro-overview of current industry practices and activities.
-
Participate in conversations with the executive leadership for HMSDC construction corporate members sharing information about construction industry trends.
-
Receive practical instructions from Corporate and Government agencies on How to do Business within each sector.
The event will conclude by pairing Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) with current business opportunities through targeted matchmakers. Matchmakers’ session is reserved for selected suppliers only.
The deadline to register for the Industry Day: Construction/Infrastructure is Monday, May 23. Another Industry Day: Utility/Energy is scheduled for August 24, 2022.
The mission of HMSDC is to actively involve its members in efforts that will increase and expand business opportunities and business growth for Minority Business Enterprises and to drive excellence in supplier diversity and supplier development.
